Need help with the inners?

We are going to discuss brassieres today. You read me right. If you find buying undergarments a daunting task, this is the article for you.  How do you ask the salesperson what exactly you need? Or do you yourself know what you really need?

Being ignorant is not so much a shame, as being unwilling to learn -Benjamin Franklin

Bras constitute an extremely important part of defining your body shape. Wrong bras not only make you look bulky or skinny, but they can have a rather deep emotional impact on the way you perceive yourself. Importantly, wrong bras can affect your posture and at times even cause back aches.

How to choose the right bra?

It is estimated that over 75% of women make a wrong choice in buying a bra that fits, because often, your buying decision is determined by the salesperson selling the bra. Put your inhibitions away and stop being self-conscious!

Assess your situation

Ask yourselves these simple questions:

Are the cups of the bra that you are wearing wrinkled or pointy?

  • If the answer is yes, you are wearing a wrong cup size

With straps dropped, does your bra remain on the cups?

  • You’ve made a good choice honey!

Are the straps of your bra digging deep into your shoulders?

  • What’s wrong with you? You need a bra that fits!

Can the front band underneath allow you finger to easily slide through?

  • This fits perfectly darling!

Determine the bra size:

Take a measuring tape and measure the width underneath your bust.  Now measure the circumference over the bust. Once you have both the measurements in cms handy, use the chart at the bottom to determine your bra size.

Cup Styles

Bras are available in a variety of shapes and styles. Before you enter the lingerie shop, knowledge of these would further aide you in buying just the right type of bra you were looking for:

  • Full Cups – These cups are designed to cover all or most of each breast.

  • Seamless Cups – Seamless cups as the name suggests fit seamlessly without any joints on them. This style of cup almost always has a breast shape pre-determined by a molding machine. A seamless cup can be rigid or stretchy.

  • Contour Cups – Contour cups are lined with a thin layer of foam for modesty. They are usually seamless, but can also have seams.

  • Cut & Sew Cups – This is another term for cups with seams or joints. Cut & sew cups are the most supportive cups. The more seams, the more supportive a cut & sew cup becomes.

  • Half Cups – A half cup provides less upper breast coverage. Also called a half cup, this cup style is designed to expose to upper half of your breast, and usually comes with wide-set bra straps.

  • Padded Cups – A bra cup with padding included.

  • Petite Cups – A bra designed for a woman with a short and/or petite build. The cups will be paired down and sewn closer together. Many pre-teen bras are made with petite cups.

  • Push-up Cups – The bottom of the cup has padding to push your breasts up to give them a fuller look.
